EMDR Therapy
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is one of the most proven effective forms of trauma treatment. Rather than talking about the past, we work with our nervous systems to return to a sense of safety and wellbeing. EMDR helps clients feel less stuck and finally move forward with their lives. You can learn more about EMDR through EMDRIA.

What does EMDR involve?
While every client and situation is unique, here is a brief outline of how EMDR therapy may unfold. Please note this is a general overview and the actual progression of sessions may differ. If some of this seems abstract or confusing, that's totally normal. I'm happy to discuss more in a consultation or during our sessions.
History, Background, and Assessment (Sessions 1-4)
We will work on getting a holistic picture of who you are and your current symptoms. We may touch on family, culture, identities, childhood, and anything else that is important to your story. We determine if it makes sense to use EMDR and collaborate on a path forward.
Resource Development (Sessions 5-8)
We will practice tuning into our bodies and emotions. We will develop a strong foundation of internal trust and safety. Most clients find the resource development to provide immense and quick benefit.
Reprocessing (Sessions 9-12)
Once a solid foundation has been built and strengthened we will begin working with some past memories. These can be experiences you bring to therapy from the onset or ones we identify together. We will reprocess these memories so that they no longer feel as overwhelming and traumatic.
Integration & Reassessment (Sessions 12+)
We will then take time to digest and notice how the reprocessing went, assessing how symptoms feel now. We may identify new areas to address or decide that therapy feels complete.
